According to today’s Daily Star – the Hollyoaks cast are in constant fear of facing the dreaded Soap Axe since the arrival of new Hollyoaks chief Paul Marquess.
The TV producer who replaces the short-lived Lucy Allan is predicted to live up to his nickname ‘The Axeman’.
When he took charge of ITV drama The Bill in 2002 he sacked a string of top characters in a bid to streamline the programme and help boost ratings.
And apparently he intends to do the same at Hollyoaks.
A show insider said: “Paul is known for having the balls to make serious changes to the cast if he thinks things need a good shake-up.
“Everyone is expecting a mass cull.”
Paul has only been in the job a couple of weeks but already sources say there is an “air of change” around.
Our mole added: “Things do need a bit of a shake-up.
“Like any soap, you need to keep things fresh.
“If that means out with the old and in with the new, then so be it.”
