Newly engaged couple!
*SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER*
Last week we revealed that Gilly would be popping the question to new character Jem…
The soap loser, played by Anthony Quinlan, will leave his former love interest Steph Cunningham devastated when he proposes to his new girlfriend Jem (Helen Russell-Clarke) – who he met when he was travelling around the world – in front of her and his friends from the village.
Steph – played by Carley Stenson – is shocked when the hapless character returns home from his travels to reveal he has moved on from her and found a new woman.
She said: “The scene where Gilly proposed in the Dog is so sad, because Steph thinks he might ask her.
“She’s surprised when Gilly comes home early, and believes it’s down to a letter she sent telling him her feelings.”
As Steph struggles to cope with Gilly’s new romance, she quickly finds an enemy in his lover and is furious when Jem bonds with her stepson Tom.
Carley explained: “Jem is one of those annoyingly lovely girls who’s good at everything and really pretty.
She swiftly becomes Steph’s nemesis. Jem’s a tough cookie. She bonds with Tom when they decide he should send his half-sister Cindy a Mother’s Day card to cheer her up because of her daughter Holly’s disappearance. Steph thinks it’ll make things worse – but Gilly accuses her of being so wrapped up in herself.”
However, Steph is determined not to give up hope and is expected to cause some “trouble” as she fights to win back Gilly’s love.
Carley added: “There’s no doubt she’ll be causing trouble. Some of the old fight is definitely left in Steph.”
